Wolf Range Igniter Clicking But Not Lighting? Here's Why
June 25, 2026
If you’ve got a Wolf range burner that clicks repeatedly but never catches, you’re dealing with one of the most common — and most misunderstood — Wolf range issues.
What the Clicking Actually Means
The clicking sound is the igniter attempting to spark. On a healthy burner, that spark generates enough heat to open the gas valve and ignite the burner within a second or two. When the igniter has weakened, it still sparks — which is why the clicking continues — but it no longer generates enough heat to fully open the valve. The burner never lights, or lights inconsistently and goes back out.
It’s Rarely a Gas Supply Problem
Because the range seems to be “trying” to light, it’s natural to wonder if there’s a gas supply issue. In our experience, that’s rarely the case on Wolf ranges specifically — their sealed burner design is reliable on the supply side. The igniter itself, or occasionally a burner assembly clogged with spilled food residue blocking the spark path, accounts for the large majority of these calls.
Why Sealed Burners Complicate DIY Cleaning
Wolf’s sealed burners look straightforward to clean from the top, but the igniter and spark electrode sit in a specific position relative to the burner cap that’s easy to disturb during a home cleaning attempt. If a burner that was clicking normally suddenly stops sparking altogether after a deep clean, a shifted electrode is a common cause — worth mentioning to your technician if it applies.
What a Repair Visit Involves
A technician tests the igniter’s spark and heat output directly, checks the burner assembly for residue or misalignment, and confirms gas flow to rule out a supply-side issue before replacing anything. Igniter replacement is one of the more straightforward and affordable Wolf range repairs, and most visits resolve the issue on the first trip since igniters are a commonly stocked part.
